Okay are you guys ready to have your minds blown?
I always talk about the universe as a living thing and consciousness and life as a force of nature and not some fluke of our little blue rock. Now spiritual people have no problem accepting this but my more scientific minded friends tend to dismiss it as metaphor, allegory or just poetry. Now very recent and groundbreaking developments in the sciences of astrophysics and cosmology have come to my defense. It seems that a new theory of the origin of the universe is challenging the big bang theory. It is called the big bounce. In this theory the universe is like a bouncing ball it expands until it runs out of steam and then it falls back on itself again into a single point where time and space do not exist. Then it explodes and the cycle happens all over again.
Now, here is the awesome part. It is an established fact that our universe is incredibly friendly to life. Science notes that if the laws of physics were changed in the slightest bit, say the mass of hydrogen or any tiny change in any of the forces within the atom the universe would be entirely different. Stars would not form, there might not be any matter at all. This is a scientific principle known as cosmological fine tuning. This little known fact is what keeps the mind of the physicist open to ideas about an intelligence behind the universe. It is just too incredibly improbable that the physical universe is EXACTLY as it needs to be for life to form. So, some mechanism is fine tuning it for this purpose.
Now, it gets even weirder. Our universe reproduces. Stanford University Article on the Self Replicating Multiverse. Universes replicate and mutate just like any other life form. This happens in black holes. Here’s how it works. When a giant star burns out it collapses. It collapses into, you guessed it, a black hole then a singularity. Just as it is about to become infinitely dense a phenomena knows as “superfluidity” kicks in. Helium, one of the most common elements in the universe when compressed becomes a superfluid. We can make it here on Earth. A superfluid will not be compressed or contained. So what happens? BANG! A new universe but one slightly different than its parent.
Natural selection kicks in. The most successful of these infant universes are those with the most black holes. So, they need to cool the expanding cosmic gasses so matter can form. How is this done? With carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is carbon and oxygen “coincidentally” the two most necessary components of life. It all fits together like a near impossible and intricate puzzle.
The universe has as its purpose the propagation and protection of life. Life has as its purpose the expansion of self awareness. Consciousness.
