I have written about this before. The key to control of both body and mind is self observation. Olympic athletes use a version of this called biofeedback in their training. The military uses these techniques to teach soldiers how to withstand interrogation and torture. It is an ancient practice used by yogis for centuries to control various bodily functions. You can use these techniques to control emotion as well.
Notice your emotion. Watch it as if you were merely an observer. You will find that it does not want to be observed. It is as if there is a part of us that does not want to relinquish control to the conscious mind. Feel the emotion as a ball of “feeling” in the area near the solar plexus. Observe how thought and emotion are intertwined. Watch how thoughts project emotions onto this pulsating ball of feeling as if it were a movie screen. Try intentionally changing it by thinking. Think of something sad then notice the change. Think of a joyful incident. Think of a time when you were frightened out of your wits.
You will see that this “feeling” can be controlled by will once that skill is developed.
